The Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan held a regular round of consular consultations in Tashkent and signed a protocol on their results.
The sides discussed the issues of bilateral cooperation on the consular issues, including in the field of protecting the rights and interests of citizens, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry reports.
Representatives of law enforcement agencies of the two countries took part in the event.
Citizens of the two countries need entry visas to cross the border, since Turkmenistan withdrew from a visa-free agreement with the CIS in 1999.
The common border with Uzbekistan is the longest for Turkmenistan, about 1,700km. The countries are interested in expanding cross-border trade.
According to the Uzbek Presidential Statistics Agency, 4,800 people from Turkmenistan visited the country for tourism purposes in January-February 2023.
