During a meeting with businessmen and investors, acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan Amir Khan Muttaqi asserted that Afghanistan maintains a higher level of inclusivity compared to regional governments, Aamaj news reports.
His response was directed toward those who urged the Taliban to establish a more inclusive government. Local media speculate that the remarks were targeted at Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, who has been advocating for an inclusive government in Afghanistan.
Mutaqqi further highlighted that Afghanistan serves as the closest and most favorable route for trade and communication between Central and South Asia. He emphasized the country's economic growth, stating that Afghanistan's exports reached a record $1.9bn last year, indicating a positive economic situation.
However, this optimistic portrayal contradicts the information provided by the World Humanitarian Organization. According to the organization, 28.8mn people in Afghanistan require humanitarian assistance to survive, with more than 3mn children and 80,000 pregnant and lactating women facing food insecurity.
Despite almost two years passing since the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan, no country has officially recognized its regime. Recognition is contingent on adhering to global conditions, including safeguarding human rights, especially women's rights, and establishing a genuinely inclusive government. The Taliban, however, insist that their government already meets these criteria.
