The regional government's information service reports that representatives from Orascom Investment Holding, an Egyptian company, have expressed their interest in investing $300mn in Jizzakh, Uzbekistan.
A meeting was held at the Ministry of Agriculture with a delegation led by Najib Sawiris, the chairman of Orascom Investment Holding, during their visit to Uzbekistan. The discussions at the meeting focused on establishing cooperation in the cultivation of sugar beets and sugar production in Uzbekistan, with the involvement of Egyptian investments.
In 2022, Uzbekistan imported daily food products worth $2.2bn, with the majority consisting of meat, grain products, sunflower oil, and sugar.
As part of this collaboration project, the delegation was invited to explore potential land areas in the Gallaorol district of the Jizzakh region and the Akhangaran district of the Tashkent region.
Representatives from Orascom Investment Holding mentioned that the initial phase of the project aims to invest approximately $200-300mn and cultivate sugar beets on 30,000-50,000 hectares of land.
