Turkmenistan will produce an average of 0.27m barrels of oil and other liquid hydrocarbons per day in 2023, compared to 0.26m barrels a year earlier, the US Department of Energy's Energy Information Administration (EIA) reports.
The country's oil is produced by state-owned Turkmenneft, as well as Eni, Mitro, Dragon Oil and Petronas.
Much of the crude is refined at Turkmenbashi and Seidi refineries. In 2021, to supply the local refineries with crude, Turkmenistan announced that it would purchase 500,000 tonnes from foreign companies operating in the country on the basis of Production Sharing Agreements (PSAs).
Oil is exported mainly by sea to the ports of Baku (Azerbaijan), Neka (Iran) and Makhachkala (Russia).
