G7 countries, also known as the "Big Seven," are considering a complete ban on exports to Russia as part of an extension of the existing sanctions regime against Mosco, Kyodo news agency reports referring to a source in the Japanese government.
While a wide range of goods, including military and luxury items, have already been subject to trade embargoes, the new plan may extend to cars, tires, cosmetics, and clothing. The G7 summit, where the issue is expected to be discussed, is scheduled to take place in Hiroshima from May 19-21.
Following the one-year anniversary of the start of the war in Ukraine, the US and the EU implemented new sanctions against Russia, including targeting 11 Russian banks and imposing a 200% tariff on aluminum products from Russia, among other measures.
