The US Senate has announced Jonathan Henick as the new ambassador to Uzbekistan. Daniel Rosenblum, who has been in this position since May 2019, has completed his three-year mission and continues his role as the US ambassador to Kazakhstan.
At the regular meeting of the US Senate on July 27, Jonathan Henick was confirmed as the new US ambassador to Uzbekistan.
Henick, a senior official of the US Foreign Service with the status of Ambassador-Counselor, has been the head of the College of Information and Cyberspace at the National Defense University of the US State Department since last year. Previously he served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the State's Bureau for South and Central Asia. He was responsible for public diplomacy and media relations in South and Central Asia.
Jonathan Henick was born in New York and can speak Russian, Portuguese, Turkish as well as Azerbaijani. He holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Hawaii, an MA in International Relations from Columbia University in New York, and a BA from Columbia College.
“I will work to advance the interests of the United States and strengthen our strategic partnership with Uzbekistan, strengthen our bilateral security, people-to-people and economic ties, and promote the democratic values we share”, Henick said during his speech.
Earlier, US President Joe Biden nominated Jonathan Henick, a diplomat with many years of experience, as the next ambassador of Uzbekistan.
