In Washington on June 19, Chairperson of the Senate of Uzbekistan Tanzila Norbaeva met with the Assistant U.S. Trade Representative, South, and Central Asia, (USTR) Christopher Wilson, the Uzbek Senate’s website reports.
The USTR spokesman praised Uzbekistan's efforts to end forced labor, noting that the Cotton Campaign's cotton boycott had been lifted.
According to Mr. Wilson, the United States is committed to supporting Uzbekistan's efforts to join the World Trade Organization (WTO). In this regard, the American side is ready to participate in the 5th meeting of the working group on Uzbekistan's accession to the WTO.
In addition, the Representative noted that the USTR is interested in expanding cooperation with Uzbekistan in supporting common priorities under the Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) between Central Asia and the United States. . This will lay the foundation for deepening the integration of the countries of the region into the global supply chain.
“Wilson also expressed hope that the activity would be supported by another TIFA working group on women’s economic empowerment.
The parties also expressed interest in further developing and expanding multifaceted trade and economic cooperation.
Tanzila Narbaeva has been on an official visit to the United States where she has already held talks with the Speaker of the Senate and met with the US Deputy Secretary of State.
