President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting to review the results of ongoing reforms in the Jizzakh region and to outline priorities for its socio-economic development, as it was reported by presidential press service on January 30.
Officials reported that structural changes in recent years have transformed the region’s economy, shifting it from a primarily agricultural orientation toward manufacturing, services, and modern agricultural clusters. New growth areas include textiles, construction materials, automotive manufacturing, electrical engineering, and tourism.
According to the data presented, the share of industry in the gross regional product increased from 9.1% to 18.8%, while agriculture’s share declined from 50% to 36%. Over the same period, unemployment decreased by 4.9 percentage points and poverty by 5.8 percentage points. Exports grew by 1.8 times, services output by 1.6 times, and industrial production by 1.9 times.
During the past year, the region implemented 25 large and 533 medium and small investment projects, attracting $1.4bn in foreign investment. The number of exporting enterprises reached 160, with total exports amounting to $285mn.
Plans for 2026–2027 include increasing gross regional product growth to 8.5%, raising industrial production by 8%, attracting $5bn in foreign investment, and expanding annual exports to $500mn. It was noted that future investments will prioritize high value-added production rather than raw material extraction and simple assembly operations.
Targets were also outlined to reduce unemployment to 3%, lower poverty to 2.8%, and achieve crime-free status in 182 mahallas. The president emphasized that these goals require deeper specialization at the local level.
Following the meeting, officials were instructed to ensure that all development projects are implemented with clear links to job creation and improvements in living standards.
