President Ilham Aliyev has called for justice and accountability in the aftermath of the tragic plane crash in Aktau that claimed the lives of Azerbaijani citizens. Speaking at a meeting with the families of the victims and surviving crew members on January 6, the president emphasized the need for transparency and decisive action.
“I can confidently say that responsibility for this catastrophe lies with representatives of the Russian Federation,” President Aliyev stated. “We demand justice, punishment for those responsible, full transparency, and humane treatment in addressing this tragedy."
The president revealed that the process of decoding the aircraft’s black boxes is currently underway, expressing confidence that preliminary results would soon shed light on the incident.
“I am certain that in the near future, we will learn the initial findings, and the full picture of this tragedy will emerge,” Aliyev said. “This will be a crucial step in conducting a thorough investigation and ensuring those at fault are held accountable.”
The plane crash, which occurred in Aktau, has drawn significant attention as authorities work to determine the cause of the tragedy.
Details of the Crash
The plane, Flight J2-8243, was en route from Baku to Grozny when the crash occurred. Among the 67 people on board were:
•42 citizens of Azerbaijan,
•16 citizens of Russia,
•6 citizens of Kazakhstan, and
•3 citizens of Kyrgyzstan.
The incident claimed 38 lives, leaving 29 survivors.
Kazakhstan is working with global aviation experts to investigate the crash, including the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Brazil’s CENIPA, the Interstate Aviation Committee (IAC), and Embraer, the aircraft’s manufacturer. The black boxes were sent to CENIPA on December 30 for analysis, with results expected to shed light on the incident and help prevent future tragedies.
