The investment portfolio of Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power in Uzbekistan has reached $15bn, marking a milestone in the strategic partnership between the two countries.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev highlighted this achievement during a meeting with Mohammad Abunayyan, Co-Chairman of the Uzbek-Saudi Business Council and Chairman of the Board of ACWA Power, held within the framework of the Samarkand Climate Forum.
The president expressed satisfaction with the dynamic and productive cooperation with ACWA Power, which plays a key role in Uzbekistan’s transition to green energy. He stressed the importance of further expanding mutually beneficial collaboration with Saudi companies across various sectors.
Notable achievements include the launch of two wind power plants—each with a capacity of 500 megawatts—in the Bukhara region in December 2024. In addition, major projects are underway to build two solar power plants totaling 1 gigawatt in the Samarkand region, as well as energy storage systems in the Tashkent region.
President Mirziyoyev emphasized the need to accelerate the implementation of projects in renewable energy, infrastructure, pharmaceuticals, modernization of heating and water supply systems, and other critical areas.
He also underlined the importance of thorough preparation for the upcoming Intergovernmental Commission meeting and business forum, set to be held in Samarkand later this year, as platforms to further strengthen economic ties.
