Uzbekistan has joined 148 other countries in supporting a United Nations General Assembly resolution calling for an immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, as the humanitarian crisis in the region deepens.

The resolution, adopted by 149 votes in favor, 12 against, and 19 abstentions, calls for the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, the release of all hostages, and the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid.
The initiative was jointly proposed by 23 countries, including Palestine and Spain, amid escalating international pressure to halt the violence. The document strongly condemns the use of starvation as a method of warfare and urges all parties to comply with international humanitarian law.
While the resolution does not carry legal binding power, its broad support reflects mounting global concern and carries significant political and moral weight.
The United States, Israel, Hungary, Argentina, Paraguay, and several others opposed the resolution. Georgia, India, Romania, and Ecuador were among those that abstained.

This vote comes on the heels of the U.S. blocking a similar resolution at the UN Security Council earlier this week, prompting the General Assembly to resume its rarely convened 10th Emergency Special Session — first called in 1997 in response to Israeli actions in occupied Palestinian territories.
This marks the latest effort by the international community to address the ongoing conflict, which has seen extensive civilian casualties, destruction of infrastructure, and mounting accusations of war crimes. The General Assembly had previously convened in December 2024, adopting resolutions urging a ceasefire and reaffirming support for the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), whose operations have been barred by Israel.
Under resolution 377A(V), the General Assembly is empowered to act on issues of international peace and security when the Security Council is deadlocked, as it has been in this case due to divisions among its permanent members.
