Komil Allamjonov has reportedly been appointed as an independent advisor to Saida Mirziyoyeva, the newly appointed Head of the Presidential Administration of Uzbekistan, a source told Daryo.
In his new role, Allamjonov is expected to provide strategic guidance on key national priorities, including the development of an innovative economy, attracting foreign investment, promoting freedom of speech, and supporting independent media.
The appointment comes after a presidential decree introduced structural changes to the Presidential Administration. Saida Mirziyoyeva, who previously served as an assistant to the president, was officially appointed as its head by decree of the President of Uzbekistan.
Allamjonov is a prominent media figure and reform advocate who has held several senior roles in Uzbekistan’s media and communications landscape. He served as the head of the presidential press service starting in December 2017 and went on to lead the Press and Information Agency of Uzbekistan in 2018. Following its reorganization in 2019, he became the director of the Agency for Information and Mass Communications under the Presidential Administration.
In 2020, he assumed the role of Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Public Foundation for Support and Development of National Mass Media, and in 2022, was appointed Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration. From August 2023 until September 30, 2024, he led the Information Policy Department within the administration.
During his tenure, Allamjonov played a key role in implementing reforms to enhance government transparency, advance media freedoms, and modernize the public education system. He has been a vocal proponent of press freedom in Uzbekistan.
"Freedom of speech is everyone's right. Both the press and the individuals reflected in it. It is important to strike this balance. So, there is no way back — that is clear. Only forward — within the framework of rights, norms, and laws," Allamjonov said during a meeting with journalists.
His new advisory role is expected to further support the administration’s goals of openness, innovation, and institutional reform under the leadership of Saida Mirziyoyeva.
