The Ipak Yuli Free Economic Zone (FEZ) in Uzbekistan’s Andijan region is set to house two major industrial projects, regional khokim (mayor) Shukhratbek Abdurakhmanov reported via his Telegram channel.
Electric Scooter Manufacturing Plant
Construction has begun on a plant dedicated to the production of electric scooters, marking a significant step towards advancing green technology in the region. The $10mn project aims to produce up to 2mn electric scooters annually. Of these, products valued at $5mn are planned for export, contributing to the region’s export potential.
The plant, expected to be operational by late 2025, will create 300 new jobs. This initiative aligns with the government’s strategy to promote environmentally friendly transportation solutions and expand the Andijan region’s industrial footprint.
Non-Ferrous Metal Structures Plant
Simultaneously, construction is underway for a plant specializing in non-ferrous metal structures within the Ipak Yuli FEZ. The project, with a total investment of $200mn, is being spearheaded by China Baoli Technologies Holdings Limited, a major player in the metallurgy industry.
The plant will have an annual production capacity of 18,000 to 45,000 tons of non-ferrous metal structures, with an export potential of $18mn. The enterprise is expected to generate 400 new jobs upon its launch in 2026.
Development of the Ipak Yuli FEZ
Established in February through a presidential decree, the Ipak Yuli FEZ spans 218 hectares, of which more than 201 hectares of agricultural land were repurposed for industrial and infrastructure development. The free economic zone is part of Uzbekistan’s broader strategy to attract foreign investment and foster industrial growth.
The zone's creation followed an announcement of plans to involve investors from China in the development of over 30 projects worth $3bn. These projects will focus on diverse sectors, including energy, mechanical engineering, textiles, and agriculture.
