Uzbekistan’s Consulate General in Seattle, Washington, formally opened on September 4, marking the official inauguration of the country’s first consular institution in the U.S. Pacific Northwest. The mission had already begun operating in Seattle in March 2026.
The opening was described by Komil Allamjonov, Minister-Counsellor at the Embassy of Uzbekistan in the United States and representative of the Presidential Administration in the U.S., as an important step in the further development of Uzbekistan–U.S. relations. Allamjonov expressed confidence that the new consulate would contribute to strengthening trade and economic, investment, technological, educational and social ties between the two countries.
Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to the United States Furqat Sidikov, who attended the opening ceremony, described the consular institution as a new platform for expanding cooperation between Uzbekistan and the United States.
“Seattle is a global leader in technology, innovation and industry. It is an ideal place for our future cooperation,” Sidikov stated.
The Consulate General began operating in March 2026. Career diplomat Ahror Burkhanov was appointed to head the mission. He previously served as press secretary of Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The opening of consulates general in Seattle, Philadelphia, Chicago and Orlando was provided for under a presidential decree issued in 2025 on the establishment of the American-Uzbek Business and Investment Council.
Before the expansion, Uzbekistan’s diplomatic presence in the United States included its Embassy in Washington, D.C., and Consulate General in New York. More than 3,000 people from Uzbekistan live in Washington state, according to official data, with most residing and working in Seattle and its surrounding areas. The new consulate is expected to provide consular services to the Uzbek community in the region while supporting broader bilateral engagement.
