Ambassador Serge Rumin, Special Representative of the Swiss Chairperson-in-Office of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) for the Promotion of Dialogue and Confidence-building, concluded a two-and-a-half-day visit to Uzbekistan, as part of a regional trip across Central Asia.
The visit focused on recent regional developments, including the Khujand Declaration and the outcomes of the Fergana Peace Forum, as well as opportunities to strengthen dialogue, confidence-building, and regional cooperation under Switzerland's 2026 OSCE Chairpersonship.
During his visit, Rumin held meetings with Deputy Foreign Minister Muzaffar Madrahimov, Deputy Chairman of the Senate Sodiq Safoyev, and Eldor Aripov, Director of the Institute of Strategic and Regional Studies under the Presidential Administration.
He also met with representatives of the International Institute for Central Asia.
According to the OSCE, the discussions covered Switzerland's priorities during its OSCE Chairpersonship and prospects for expanding regional cooperation across Central Asia.
The visit also examined recent diplomatic developments in the region, including the Khujand Declaration and the Fergana Peace Forum, which have focused on strengthening regional dialogue and cooperation.
Rumin participated in the Young Peacebuilders Cross-Border Initiative in Fergana.
The event brought together more than 30 young participants from the border regions of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan to discuss dialogue, trust-building, and practical cooperation in the Fergana Valley.
On the sidelines of the event, Rumin also met with Fergana Region Governor (Khokim) Khairullo Bozorov.
According to the OSCE, the initiative forms part of broader efforts to encourage regional engagement among young people from neighboring countries.
The Uzbekistan visit formed part of a broader regional mission that also included Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.
According to the OSCE, the tour was aimed at assessing recent regional developments and exploring opportunities to strengthen dialogue, confidence-building measures, and cooperation across Central Asia and the wider OSCE region.
