Tajikistan and Iran discussed expanding industrial cooperation and advancing joint production projects during a meeting held on the sidelines of the Fourth Meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Ministers of Industry in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan.
The talks took place between Tajikistan’s Minister of Industry and New Technologies, Sherali Kabir, and Iran’s Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade. The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral industrial ties and identifying opportunities for deeper technological and manufacturing cooperation.
According to Tajikistan’s Ministry of Industry and New Technologies, the parties reviewed prospects for joint projects across a range of sectors, including textiles, metallurgy, mineral processing, agricultural machinery production, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, construction materials, chemicals, and coal processing.
During the meeting, both sides noted a shift in bilateral economic relations from traditional trade toward broader industrial and technological integration. The ministers discussed measures aimed at increasing cooperation in manufacturing and supporting joint investment initiatives.
Particular attention was given to the implementation of the Tajikistan-Iran cooperation plan for 2025–2027. Among the initiatives discussed was the development of textile clusters in Tajikistan based on domestic cotton resources and the use of Iranian technologies. The project is intended to increase local processing capacity and expand the production of higher value-added textile products.
The ministers also reviewed issues related to logistics infrastructure, which they identified as an important component for expanding industrial cooperation and facilitating future joint projects.
In addition, the parties discussed the introduction of digital technologies and artificial intelligence-based solutions in industrial management and production processes. These technologies are expected to support efficiency improvements and modernization efforts within industrial enterprises.
Following the talks, Tajikistan and Iran reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening industrial cooperation and continuing work on joint investment and production projects outlined within their bilateral cooperation framework.
