Kazakhstan has offered to serve as a regional gateway for Indonesian businesses seeking access to Central Asia, the Eurasian Economic Union, the Caucasus and European markets.
The proposal was discussed during a meeting in Astana between Kazakhstan Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov and Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, according to the Kazakh government’s press service.
Kazakh officials highlighted the country’s investment climate and strategic geographic position as advantages for expanding bilateral economic cooperation.
The sides also discussed the development of transport and logistics routes, including opportunities to utilize Kazakhstan’s transit potential and international transport corridor infrastructure.
Bilateral trade between Kazakhstan and Indonesia reached $244.7mn in 2025, while trade turnover totalled $31.5mn in January–March 2026. Kazakhstan’s exports to Indonesia are mainly composed of manufactured products, metallurgy and chemical industry goods, while Indonesia exports electronics and textiles to Kazakhstan.
Bektenov said Astana places significant importance on expanding trade, economic and investment ties with Jakarta. The Kazakh prime minister additionally expressed interest in strengthening broader business cooperation between the two countries.
Hartarto, in turn, confirmed Indonesia’s readiness to deepen partnership relations, expand business contacts and develop cooperation in promising sectors.
The talks also highlighted opportunities for expanding collaboration in energy, industry, agriculture and food processing, textiles, Islamic banking, digital economy, education and tourism.
