The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received a delegation from the Republic of Austria on May 7, consisting of Federal Minister for European and International Affairs Beate Meinl-Reisinger and Federal Minister of the Interior Gerhard Karner.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Austrian delegation conveyed greetings and best wishes from the Federal President of Austria Alexander Van der Bellen to the President of Uzbekistan.
The talks focused on the further development of bilateral cooperation between Uzbekistan and Austria across political, economic, and sectoral areas. Both sides noted the continued expansion of contacts at different levels and reviewed the current state of cooperation.
According to the discussions, trade turnover between the two countries has tripled in recent years. Joint projects are being implemented in several sectors, including construction materials, mountain tourism, healthcare, the chemical industry, agriculture, as well as banking and financial services.
The Intergovernmental Commission between Uzbekistan and Austria was described as functioning effectively. During the visit, a joint business forum was held, resulting in the signing of agreements in the areas of labor migration, diplomatic service cooperation, and taxation.
The meeting also highlighted the expansion of cultural and educational exchanges between the two countries. Both sides emphasized the importance of maintaining a structured high-level dialogue, increasing trade volumes, and advancing joint investment and development projects in priority sectors.
Cooperation in the field of security was also discussed. The parties noted the importance of continued information exchange and coordination in areas such as counterterrorism, combating human trafficking, drug trafficking, and cybercrime.
In addition, the sides exchanged views on regional and international developments of mutual interest.
