Uzbekistan has generated more than 2bn kWh of electricity from renewable energy sources since the beginning of 2026, as to the Ministry of Energy.
As of March 20, solar and wind power plants accounted for this output, with solar photovoltaic stations producing 959.2mn kWh and wind power plants generating 1.05bn kWh. The country currently operates 15 solar and 5 wind power plants with a combined installed capacity of 5,582 MW.
The volume of green electricity increased by 43% compared to the same period in 2025, equivalent to an additional 610.7mn kWh. The first 1bn kWh of renewable energy was generated within 44 days, while the second billion was produced in 35 days.
The use of renewable energy sources contributed to saving 537mn cubic meters of natural gas and preventing the emission of 1.15mn tons of harmful substances into the atmosphere. When including hydroelectric power generation, total renewable electricity output reached 3.16bn kWh by March 20. This resulted in total savings of 839mn cubic meters of natural gas and the prevention of more than 1.8mn tons of emissions.
According to the Ministry of Energy, the current level of green energy generation is sufficient to meet the annual electricity demand of approximately 1.3mn households.
Renewable energy generation in Uzbekistan has expanded notably in recent years. In 2022, initial photovoltaic plants in the Navoi and Samarkand regions generated 434mn kWh. Output increased to 576.9mn kWh in 2023 and reached 4.86bn kWh in 2024. In 2025, total electricity generation from solar and wind power plants amounted to 10.5bn kWh, representing a 2.1-fold increase compared to the previous year.
