Uzbekistan hosted a series of events aimed at enhancing trade, economic, and investment cooperation with Latvia on March 5, coinciding with the visit of a Latvian delegation to Tashkent.
As part of the program, negotiations were conducted between Laziz Kudratov, Minister of Investment, Industry, and Trade of Uzbekistan, and Atis Svinka, Minister of Transport of Latvia. The visit also included the 9th session of the Uzbekistan–Latvia Intergovernmental Commission and the Uzbekistan–Latvia Business Forum, which brought together representatives from government agencies and businesses from both countries.
Discussions focused on assessing the current state and future prospects of bilateral cooperation, developing industrial partnerships, and expanding transport and logistics corridors connecting Central Asia with the European Union. The agenda also included collaboration in digital technologies, agriculture, and education. Bilateral trade between Uzbekistan and Latvia reached $273.2mn in 2025, with both sides confirming their intention to increase this figure to $500mn in the medium term.
More than 20 Latvian companies participated in the business forum, including Latvijas dzelzcels, Ventspils Free Port, Elektroniskie sakari, Intellog, and MGK Building. These companies are active in sectors such as railway infrastructure, port logistics, telecommunications, transport services, and construction technologies.
Following the events, Uzbekistan and Latvia signed a Memorandum to restore the activities of the Uzbekistan–Latvia and Latvia–Uzbekistan Business Cooperation Councils. An Action Plan to strengthen economic cooperation was also adopted. Additionally, B2B meetings resulted in agreements to implement joint projects in logistics, industry, agriculture, and the digital economy.
