Uzbekistan’s Central Bank has instructed commercial banks and payment organizations to introduce a feature requiring users to indicate the purpose of card-to-card (P2P) transfers when making transactions via mobile applications.

Under the guidance sent to financial institutions, users may be required to select a transfer purpose before completing a transaction. According to banking news channel “Bank and customer,” the requirement has already been activated in some mobile apps, while others have yet to implement it.

The directive categorizes P2P transfer purposes into 16 types, including payments for goods and services, food expenses, and transfers to family members or relatives.

In response to a media inquiry, a Central Bank representative said the measure falls within the broader development of digital financial services, allowing banks and payment organizations to gradually update mobile app functionality. The introduction of additional clarifying parameters for transfers is described as a technical upgrade aimed at improving service quality and ensuring accurate processing of transactions.

The regulator emphasized that information entered by users is processed within the standard operation of the mobile application and is not shared with third parties.

Users are advised to carefully verify payment details before confirming transfers, avoid sharing confirmation codes with others, and make financial decisions thoughtfully.

In February, the Central Bank published categorized statistics on money transfers. According to 2025 data, transfers ranging from UZS 1mn ($82.15) to UZS 5mn ($411) accounted for 16.8% of total P2P transactions, with card transfers primarily used for everyday settlements and mutual payments.
