Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan has expressed concern on February 27, regarding the escalation of tensions along the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan, calling for restraint and peaceful resolution of the situation.
In an official statement, the ministry urged all parties involved to immediately cease hostilities, exercise restraint, and refrain from actions that could contribute to further deterioration of the security situation. The Uzbek government emphasized that emerging disputes should be resolved exclusively through political and diplomatic dialogue.
The statement reaffirmed the importance of adherence to internationally recognized principles, including respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, and mutual respect between states. Uzbekistan also reiterated its support for maintaining regional stability and resolving conflicts through peaceful means.
According to developments reported on February 26, authorities representing the Taliban administration in Afghanistan announced the launch of a large-scale military offensive targeting positions along the border with Pakistan. In response, Pakistan’s government stated that its forces had reacted promptly to what it described as unprovoked attacks originating from Afghan territory.
Subsequently, during the night of February 27, Pakistani forces carried out airstrikes in Afghan cities, including Kabul and Kandahar. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that the country possesses sufficient capacity to respond to security threats.
Both Afghan and Pakistani sides have reported casualties resulting from the recent clashes, although independent verification of figures has not been publicly confirmed.
