President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on February 17 received the United Kingdom’s Trade Envoy to Central Asia and Azerbaijan, Lord John Alderdice, to discuss further expanding the Uzbek–British partnership, with particular emphasis on strengthening trade and economic cooperation.
Both sides highlighted the dynamic development of political dialogue and regular high-level exchanges. Effective cooperation in the field of security was also noted.
Over the past five years, bilateral trade turnover has doubled. Sovereign and corporate bonds of Uzbekistan worth more than $15bn have been placed on the London Stock Exchange. In 2025, the Joint Economic Committee mechanism was launched to strengthen structured economic engagement.
Cooperation in education continues to deepen. Presidential Schools have been established with British partners, and three joint universities are successfully operating in Uzbekistan. The number of British tourists visiting the country is also steadily increasing.
During the meeting, the importance of advancing new joint projects in energy, finance, geology, transport, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, science and education was emphasized.
The sides also exchanged views on current regional and global issues. Following the discussions, an agreement was reached to adopt a joint roadmap aimed at further developing comprehensive bilateral cooperation.
Earlier, a high-level Uzbek delegation led by Minister Laziz Kudratov visited London to sign key agreements with the UK, including an Action Plan to strengthen economic cooperation and a Memorandum of Understanding on collaboration in the field of critical minerals.
