The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is providing support to micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in Uzbekistan through its Uzbekistan Green Economy Financing Facility II (GEFF II Uzbekistan), aiming to improve access to green finance and promote sustainable innovation, as it was reported by EBRD on December 29.
Under the program, the EBRD has extended a loan of up to $30 mn (€25.7 mn) to Hamkorbank. The funding is intended to expand energy-efficiency lending to businesses and households across Uzbekistan, enabling them to modernize production, increase energy efficiency, and enhance climate resilience. The loan will be complemented by concessional co-financing from the government of Canada under the High-Impact Partnership on Climate Action (HIPCA).
HIPCA is supported by multiple donor countries, including Austria, Canada, Finland, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, TaiwanICDF (International Cooperation and Development Fund), the United Kingdom, and the United States.
Since beginning operations in Uzbekistan, the EBRD has invested more than $6.6 bn across 196 projects. The majority of these investments have targeted private entrepreneurship, contributing to the country’s economic development and supporting business growth in key sectors.
GEFF II Uzbekistan represents part of the EBRD’s broader strategy to encourage sustainable business practices, facilitate access to green finance, and promote climate-resilient economic development in Uzbekistan.
