Uzbekistan has launched a large-scale livestock import project with Mongolia, aiming to bring 100,000 sheep and goats into the country by the end of 2025.

A working group led by Bahrom Norqobilov, Chairman of the Committee for Veterinary Medicine and Livestock Development recently paid a business trip to Mongolia to carry out agreements reached in the agricultural and food sectors during the high-level visit of Uzbekistan’s President to Ulaanbaatar earlier this year.
As part of the first phase, 1,000 Bayad sheep were airlifted from Mongolia to Uzbekistan for breeding in the Navoi region. Officials said this step marks the start of systematic imports that will continue over the next year.
According to the plan, 50,000 sheep will be delivered to Uzbekistan on 60 flights by the end of October, with another 50,000 to follow between November and December. The program will bring the total number of imported livestock to 100,000 by the end of 2025.
During the visit, negotiations were also held with Mongolia’s Deputy Prime Minister, S. Amarsaikhan. The two sides reached an agreement to reduce the state duty on the export of sheep and goats from $18 to $7 per piece, easing the financial burden for importers.
