Presidents Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan and Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan convened for a closed-door meeting and chaired the second session of the Supreme Interstate Council at the Zagulba residence, reaffirming their commitment to advancing a multifaceted strategic partnership.

The talks focused on bolstering bilateral relations, expanding cooperation across key sectors, and marking the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations.
"Our relations have never been as high as they are today," said President Mirziyoyev, stressing the momentum of Uzbek-Azerbaijani engagement.
Both leaders emphasized the importance of strengthening friendship, deepening strategic alliances, and enhancing cooperation in trade, infrastructure, and cultural exchange. Trade turnover between the two countries has increased by 25%, with the joint project portfolio reaching $4bn. Nearly 300 joint ventures are currently operating across various sectors.

Several major events have recently cemented bilateral ties, including the first Inter Parliamentary Forum in Khiva, the Intergovernmental Commission meeting and Forum of Regions in Baku, and the Rectors’ Forum in Andijan, where over 60 cooperation agreements were signed. Cultural ties were also highlighted, with Azerbaijan’s “Shirvan” ensemble winning the Grand Prix at the Khiva Bakhshi Festival.
The presidents explored ways to raise annual trade and investment volumes to $1bn. A new Cooperation Program is being introduced, covering industry, infrastructure, healthcare, tourism, banking, and agriculture.
Leaders endorsed new cooperation mechanisms, such as the Entrepreneurs' Council and the Forum of Industrial and Economic Zones.

Special focus was given to transport and logistics collaboration, particularly in developing the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, or Middle Corridor. Uzbek cargo transit through this route has surged by 25%, surpassing 1mn tons. The countries have also transitioned to electronic permits for cargo transportation as of March 2025.
Energy cooperation remains a top priority. The two sides agreed to expedite the launch of a joint project to export electricity to Europe. At the same time, construction of the “Uzbekistan” park will begin in Baku, alongside the official opening of a new Uzbek embassy building.

The leaders emphasized the need for continued coordination between parliaments, ministries, and regional authorities. Reports were presented by the co-chairs of the Intergovernmental Commission and ministers of transport, energy, and culture.
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations, the two countries will host a series of joint cultural and youth events later this year. The leaders also exchanged views on regional security, international cooperation, and global affairs.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to adopt a detailed “roadmap” to guide the implementation of the outcomes of the Supreme Interstate Council session.
