Iran and Uzbekistan have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at expanding transit and trade ties, with a focus on port investment and corridor development. The agreement was signed in Tehran during the 13th meeting of transport ministers from Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) member states.

The signing ceremony brought together Iran’s Minister of Transport and Urban Development Farzaneh Sadegh, Uzbekistan’s Minister of Transport Ilhom Makhkamov, and Saeed Rasouli, head of Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO).
Under the MoU, the two countries agreed to facilitate private sector investment from Uzbekistan in Iran’s key southern port, Shahid Rajaee. The agreement includes plans for the construction of a dedicated terminal and logistics center to strengthen bilateral trade logistics.
This cooperation builds on previous agreements between the two countries. In August 2022, Uzbekistan and Iran launched a pilot cargo transit project via the Iranian port of Chabahar. Then in 2023, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran, and Turkey reached an agreement to establish a new international transport corridor.
To further promote bilateral freight movement, Uzbekistan removed entry and transit fees for Iranian cargo in January 2025. In a reciprocal move, Iran waived its $400 fee for Uzbek transit and freight vehicles.
