The first shipment of hepatitis C medication for 2025 has been delivered to Uzbekistan from Egypt, following an initiative led by the Embassy of Uzbekistan, reports Dunyo news agency.
This shipment is part of a humanitarian project aligned with the Uzbek government’s goal to achieve 100% treatment coverage for hepatitis C nationwide.
After successful negotiations between the Uzbek diplomatic mission and the Egyptian Ministry of Health, a total of 7,440 units of the hepatitis C drug Sofosbuvir-400mg were provided as humanitarian aid. The shipment arrived on May 31 aboard an Uzbekistan Airways flight from Sharm el-Sheikh to Tashkent.
The donated medicines, valued at approximately $114,829, will be transferred to the Research Institute of Virology under the Ministry of Health. They will be used within the framework of Uzbekistan’s national program to eliminate hepatitis C by 2030.
The Embassy of Uzbekistan highlighted that between 2023 and 2024, Egypt supplied 27 consignments totaling 12.4 tons of Daclatasvir and Sofosbuvir drugs to Uzbekistan. The total value of these medicines reached $1.4mn, all provided as humanitarian aid to support hepatitis C treatment efforts.
Experts estimate that a complete three-month treatment course for one patient requires three packs each of Daclatasvir and Sofosbuvir.
