A working meeting between customs officials of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan was held at the "Gisht Kuprik" border customs post, focusing on enhancing bilateral coordination and improving border infrastructure.

The meeting brought together Otabek Choriev, Deputy Chairman of Uzbekistan’s Customs Committee, and Bakytzhan Slyamov, Deputy Chairman of Kazakhstan’s State Revenue Committee. The discussions centered around implementing agreements made during the second meeting of Central Asian and Chinese customs heads held in Almaty within the “C5+1” format.
Key topics included the ongoing construction and modernization of the “Gisht Kuprik” (Uzbekistan) and “Zhibek Zholy” (Kazakhstan) border customs posts. While Gisht Kuprik is undergoing final decoration and landscaping, construction at Zhibek Zholy has just begun.
With around 2,200 cargo vehicles currently passing through the Uzbek-Kazakh border each day—15% more than the same period last year and double the 2020 figure—officials emphasized the need to increase the throughput capacity of border checkpoints. This rise is driven by expanding bilateral trade and seasonal agricultural exports.

Most of Uzbekistan's road-based foreign trade passes through four key customs posts: “Yallama,” “S. Nazhimov,” “Syrdarya,” and “Dovut Ota.” However, ongoing construction at Dovut Ota and Kazakhstan’s “Tazhen,” “Atamaken,” and “Kazygurt” posts is affecting traffic flow, underlining the urgency of coordinated efforts.
Officials highlighted the need to swiftly implement previously agreed measures regarding the movement of empty and oversized cargo vehicles via the “Oq Oltin–Tselinny” and “Malik–Syrdaryo” crossings. Doing so is expected to ease congestion at key checkpoints on both sides of the border.
The meeting also explored the potential for opening the “Syrdaryo” (Uzbekistan) and “Atameken” (Kazakhstan) customs posts to individuals and light vehicles, further enhancing cross-border mobility.
Concrete proposals will be prepared based on the discussions and submitted to higher authorities for consideration and approval.
