Uzbekistan and Slovenia have agreed to deepen their cooperation in technology, industry, and trade following high-level talks between President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Prime Minister Robert Golob during the Uzbek leader’s official visit to Slovenia.

The discussions focused on enhancing economic ties, with both leaders underscoring the importance of intensifying joint efforts in trade, investment, and industrial collaboration. The talks concluded with the signing of a Joint Statement and several bilateral agreements covering a wide range of areas, from smart city development to water management.
One of the key outcomes of the meeting was the mutual ambition to boost bilateral trade to €500mn. This goal will be supported through the mutual supply of high-demand goods, the advantages of the EU’s GSP+ preferential trade system, and the newly signed agreement on standardization.
A major focus was placed on expanding industrial and technological cooperation. Slovenian companies are expected to play an active role in Uzbekistan’s economic modernization through projects in electrical engineering, pharmaceutical production, smart agriculture, equipment manufacturing, and green energy. These initiatives will be supported by a special industrial park for European firms in Uzbekistan, managed by Inpark.

The leaders also agreed to establish a permanent expert group to develop a regulatory framework for cooperation in labor migration and to explore launching direct air flights. In addition, using Slovenia’s Koper port to facilitate Uzbek exports to Europe was highlighted as a strategic priority.
Cultural and educational ties were also discussed, with plans to host the Youth Innovation Forum in Tashkent and organize Days of Intercultural Dialogue and Uzbek Cinema Week in Ljubljana in 2025. The sides showed particular interest in Slovenia’s experience with ecological tourism in mountainous and rural regions.
To ensure the timely implementation of the agreements, a comprehensive roadmap will be adopted, and the first meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission is set to take place in Ljubljana this July.

The leaders also oversaw the signing of several bilateral documents, including:
- An agreement on visa-free travel for diplomatic passport holders;
- Cooperation agreements in education, science, and culture;
- Agreements on transport and logistics, smart city development, standardization, water management, and tourism.
President Mirziyoyev concluded the visit by inviting Prime Minister Golob to Uzbekistan.
