To neonatal healthcare in Tajikistan, UNICEF Tajikistan has provided 227 Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) machines and 300 oxygen concentrators, along with necessary accessories and consumables, to the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population of Tajikistan. The donation aims to enhance the country's ability to deliver effective respiratory support to newborns and other patients in need of oxygen therapy.

The life-saving equipment will be distributed across 73 healthcare facilities in urban and rural areas, ensuring that neonatal care is available to a wider population. To ensure proper usage and long-term sustainability, healthcare professionals will receive comprehensive training on the correct operation and maintenance of CPAP devices and oxygen concentrators, alongside guidance on clinical protocols for managing respiratory distress in newborns.
At the official handover ceremony, Deputy Minister of Health and Social Protection of Population, Shodikhon Jamshed, expressed gratitude for UNICEF's unwavering support. He emphasized that this donation marks a significant step in the fight against neonatal mortality and the overall improvement of healthcare services throughout the country.
"Access to safe and effective respiratory care is critical for saving lives. Through this partnership, we are working together to ensure that every mother and every child—regardless of where they live—has access to quality healthcare services," said Arthur van Diesen, UNICEF Representative in Tajikistan.
This donation aligns with Tajikistan's broader goals to improve maternal and child health outcomes, and it contributes to reducing preventable deaths. The medical equipment procurement was funded by the UNICEF Access to COVID-19 Tools Accelerator Supplies Financing Facility (ACT-A SFF), with a total investment of USD $1.8mn. Of this, $1mn was dedicated to the purchase of 300 oxygen concentrators and additional consumables.
