The 16th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between Uzbekistan and Iran took place on May 10 in Tehran, with top officials setting the stage for deeper collaboration across key sectors.

The Uzbek delegation was led by Laziz Kudratov, Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade (MIIT), while the Iranian side was headed by Mohammad Atabak, Minister of Mines, Industry and Trade. Prior to the main session, the two ministers held a bilateral meeting to align strategic interests and review progress on agreements made during previous high-level visits.
The talks focused on expanding cooperation in industrial production, logistics, transportation, trade, and investment. Both sides emphasized the need for timely implementation of ongoing and future projects, highlighting the mutual commitment to results-driven economic engagement.

During the official session, ministry and agency representatives from both countries outlined achievements and presented updated action plans. Particular attention was given to increasing bilateral trade by leveraging preferential trade agreements, holding national product exhibitions, and enhancing e-commerce links.
The parties also identified priority sectors for investment cooperation, including agriculture, food processing, IT, chemicals, textiles, and mechanical engineering. Plans were drawn to improve transport connectivity and facilitate smoother cross-border movement of goods.
The meeting concluded with the signing of a Final Protocol, reaffirming both countries’ readiness to advance joint initiatives and strengthen economic ties.
