The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the International Association of Businesswomen “Tadbirkor Ayol” hosted the Central Asian Conference on “Women of Central Asia in the Hospitality Business: Current Challenges and Opportunities”.
The event, held in Tashkent, brought together around 200 women entrepreneurs, professionals, and industry experts from Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and the Kyrgyz Republic. Participants gathered to discuss achievements, trends, and the challenges faced by the region’s hospitality sector.
Edward Michalski, USAID Deputy Mission Director in Uzbekistan, commended the resilience and creativity of women in the hospitality industry, highlighting their pivotal role in the sector’s future.
“Investing in women and girls is essential to transforming communities. When women do better, families do better, communities do better, and countries do better,” Michalski stated.
Gulnora Makhmudova, Chairwoman of “Tadbirkor Ayol”, stressed the growing importance of the hotel business in Central Asia and the increasing involvement of women. She noted that this growth has driven the association to launch the project “Women in the Hotel Business: Hospitality from the Future”. This initiative aims to introduce innovations and digitalization into the hospitality sector.
Since its launch in April 2024 with USAID’s support, the project has trained 115 women in modern hotel management across Tashkent, Andijan, and Samarkand. The training focused on equipping women with the skills needed to manage contemporary hospitality businesses effectively.
The conference covered key topics such as service quality, digitalization, and modern standards in tourism. The event concluded with recommendations aimed at enhancing regional cooperation in tourism and hospitality, promoting best practices, and fostering sustainable growth in the sector.
USAID, renowned as the world’s premier international development agency, continues to be a catalytic force driving development results.
