Kazakhstan's trade with Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa (BRICS) saw a 55% increase in 2023, exceeding $70bn. This was revealed by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Murat Nurtleu during the BRICS Dialogue with Developing Countries session on June 11, the Foreign Ministry’s press service reports.
The forum, held under the theme "Strengthening Multilateralism for Equitable Global Development and Security," welcomed Egypt, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Ethiopia as new members of the BRICS alliance in January. The event underscored the importance of cooperation across continents and regions.
Nurtleu emphasized the BRICS platform as a crucial driver of global economic growth and sustainable development. He pointed out that Kazakhstan established diplomatic missions in all BRICS countries.
“We are keen to further develop our relationships in digital technologies, critical minerals, agriculture, infrastructure, investment projects, and other areas,” Nurtleu stated.
He also highlighted President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s international initiatives, such as the UN Regional Hub on Sustainable Development Goals for Central Asia and Afghanistan, the International Agency for Biological Safety, and the vision of World Unity for Just Peace and Harmony.
Kazakhstan’s agenda includes its leadership in various regional organizations, such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia, and the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea. Nurtleu discussed the country's stance on key international issues in these contexts.
Nurtleu held bilateral meetings with the foreign ministers of Russia, Türkiye, Belarus, Iran, Sri Lanka, and Ethiopia.
