Kazakhstan plans to increase petrochemical product output by 75% by the end of 2024, Energy Minister Almasadam Satkaliyev reports. The ministry aims to boost the workload of existing enterprises to achieve a production volume of 628,300 tons of petrochemical products by year-end, up from 358,700 tons produced in the same period last year. In 4M24, 213,100 tons of petrochemical products were produced, which is double the amount produced during the same period last year.
By 2029, Kazakhstan intends to implement five large projects worth $14.3 bn. These projects are expected to contribute to an annual economic growth of 1.5% and create 20,000 jobs, with 17,000 jobs at the construction stage and 3,000 jobs at the operation stage.
This year, construction will begin on a plant with a capacity of 340,000 tons for producing butadiene and its derivatives. An investment decision is also expected for a polyethene project with a capacity of 1.2 mn tons.
From January to April, Kazakhstan refined 5.9 mn tons of oil and produced 4.3 mn tons of petroleum products.
Satkaliyev reported on the activities of Ulba Metallurgical Plant, a part of Kazatomprom National Atomic Company. The plant produces uranium oxide powders and fuel pellets for power reactors and processes hard-to-recover uranium-containing materials. Between January and April, the plant produced 79 tons of uranium products, including 76 tons of tablets and 3 tons of uranium dioxide powder.
