For many years, Japan has stood as one of Kazakhstan's primary strategic and investment partners, channeling over $7.8bn into the country since 2005, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan reported.
During a round table discussion in Tokyo, Kazakhstan presented investment proposals to key figures within Japanese corporations as part of the working visit of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nazira Nurbayeva.
Among the attendees were the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Japan, Sabr Yessimbekov, and Akira Terakawa, executive vice president of Marubeni Corporation and co-chairman of the Kazakh-Japanese Committee on Economic Cooperation. Representatives from prominent Japanese entities such as Mitsubishi Corporation, Sumitomo Corporation, Itochu, Toyota Tsusho, Sojitz, Nissin, Inpex, Mitsubishi UFJ, and Japan Tobacco also participated.
In her address, Deputy Minister Nurbayeva acquainted Japanese business representatives with new mechanisms aimed at supporting investors and extended an invitation to enhance investment activities in Kazakhstan.
"Today, about 100 Japanese companies are successfully operating in Kazakhstan, and about 60 investment projects are being implemented jointly," she highlighted.
Identifying key sectors for potential collaboration, Nurbayeva emphasized mechanical engineering, the mining and metallurgical complex, the chemical industry, and the agro-industrial complex as areas ripe for expansion.
In response, Akira Terakawa expressed the keen interest of Japanese companies in undertaking projects in Kazakhstan. He articulated confidence that bolstering economic ties between the two nations will pave the way for new business opportunities and foster innovation.
The round table concluded with Deputy Minister Nurbayeva engaging in bilateral discussions with several Japanese companies. These meetings delved into promising areas of cooperation and investment projects, further solidifying the commitment of both nations to deepen their economic relationship.
