Exports of Kazakhstan's agricultural goods to China have surged by an impressive 84% over the past year, an official information source of the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan reported.
Led by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov of Kazakhstan and Vice Premier Liu Guozhong of China, the governments of Kazakhstan and China engaged in discussions to advance their agricultural processing capabilities, emphasizing the momentum behind bilateral trade and investment cooperation.
Central to the dialogue was the shared commitment of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan and President Xi Jinping of China to elevate trade turnover to a $100bn target.
The exchange of agricultural products between Kazakhstan and China witnessed a surge, escalating by 1.7 times over the past year. This positive trajectory continued into the first quarter of 2024, with trade volume surging an additional 6%.
Prime Minister Bektenov emphasized Kazakhstan's preparedness to upscale the supply of organic and environmentally sustainable agricultural goods to the Chinese market. This endeavor is bolstered by China's gradual relaxation of restrictions on Kazakh meat and poultry imports. A focal point of collaboration is the conception of joint initiatives for comprehensive agricultural processing, aligning with both nations' priorities for modernization.
In a reciprocal gesture, Deputy Prime Minister Liu Guozhong conveyed China's keen interest in expanding cooperation across various domains, including artificial intelligence, e-commerce, satellite communications, and green energy.
The dialogue extended beyond economic realms, encompassing transit and transportation cooperation, amplifying industrial and investment collaboration through pioneering projects. Presently, 45 joint ventures, valued at a total of $14.5bn, are underway.
Discussions also touched upon the promotion of interregional and cultural-humanitarian ties, epitomized by the ongoing "Year of Tourism of Kazakhstan in China" initiatives. These endeavors are instrumental in unlocking the tourism potential of both nations and fostering people-to-people exchanges.
