Uzbekistan's foreign trade turnover with Central Asian countries amounted to $1.4 bn in 1Q24, the State Statistics Agency reports. This figure represents a 17.6% decrease compared to the same period in 2023, which saw a turnover of $1.7 bn.
In the structure of trade turnover, exports to Central Asian countries totalled almost $523 mn from January through March 2024, a 19.5% decrease from the $657.4 mn recorded in 1Q23. Imports from Central Asian countries also declined, reaching nearly $955 mn, down 13.1% from $1.1 bn in the same period last year.
Among Central Asian countries, Uzbekistan traded the most with Kazakhstan, with trade volume amounting to $937.7 mn in 1Q24. Turkmenistan followed with $235.2 mn, Kyrgyzstan with $158.2 mn, and Tajikistan with $152.5 mn.
Earlier, Daryo reported that Uzbekistan's foreign trade demonstrated a 6.2% y/y increase in 1Q24, reaching a total turnover of $15.8 bn, the State Statistics Agency reports. Exports experienced a notable surge, reaching $6.4 bn, indicating a 10% rise compared to the previous year.
Noteworthy is the substantial contribution of gold exports, which accounted for nearly half of the export revenue in March alone, totalling $1.3 bn. Since the beginning of the year, Uzbekistan has exported $2.7 bn worth of precious metals, reflecting a growth of 10.5%.
