Uzbekistan pays over $6mn in subsidies for household solar energy in 1Q26

Uzbekistan allocated more than UZS 73.9bn ($6.2mn) in subsidies to households generating solar power in the first quarter of 2026, as the country continues to scale up its push for renewable energy adoption.

According to the State Tax Committee of Uzbekistan, 45,200 individuals received a total of UZS 73.9bn ($6.2mn) from the state budget for electricity produced by solar panels and supplied to the national grid in the first three months of the year.
Regional data shows that the largest share of subsidies was distributed in Bukhara Region, which received UZS 16.5bn ($1.4mn), followed by Khorezm Region with UZS 13.3bn ($1.1mn) and Kashkadarya Region with UZS 9.1bn ($761,506).
The subsidies are part of the government’s “Solar Home” initiative, designed to encourage households to install solar panels and contribute excess electricity to the unified energy system. Citizens participating in the program can receive payments directly to their bank cards through the “Tax” mobile application, using the “Solar Home” section under the cashback and benefits service.
Since April 2023, households have been eligible to receive UZS 1,000 ($0.1) for every kilowatt-hour of surplus electricity generated and fed into the grid, creating a financial incentive for small-scale renewable energy production.
The program has expanded rapidly in recent years. More than UZS 12bn ($1mn) in subsidies were distributed in 2024, while the figure surged to over UZS 209bn ($17.5mn) in 2025, reflecting growing public participation and increased installed capacity of residential solar systems.
