The Aviation Administration of Kazakhstan (AAK) has forged an agreement with the U.S., Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to conduct a preliminary International Aviation Safety Assessment (IASA), the Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan reported.
The agreement, a collaborative effort between AAK, the Civil Aviation Committee of the Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan (CAC), and the Embassy of Kazakhstan in the USA, marks a step in aligning Kazakh aviation practices with international standards.
Outlined within the agreement is a comprehensive approach to the IASA pre-assessment process, emphasizing information exchange, technical assistance, and capacity-building activities. This strategic partnership aims to bolster cooperation between CAC, the Kazakh General Aviation (KGA), and the FAA to elevate the level of flight safety in Kazakhstan.
Under the IASA Preliminary Assessment, the FAA evaluates the compliance of civil aviation authorities of respective countries with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) safety standards. These assessments revolve around scrutinizing the eight critical elements of effective aviation safety oversight set forth by ICAO, encompassing areas such as primary aviation legislation, operating regulations, and technical personnel qualification.
The ultimate objective of the preliminary assessment is to secure Category 1 status from the FAA, paving the way for Kazakh airlines to initiate direct flights to the United States, provided suitable aircraft are available.
This agreement underscores the unwavering commitment of Kazakh aviation authorities to upholding the highest standards of aviation safety, which, in turn, is poised to foster closer ties and economic opportunities between Kazakhstan and the United States.
The timing of this pact aligns with the recent developments in Kazakhstan's aviation sector. In November 2022, Air Astana, the country's premier carrier, inked a leasing deal with ALC for three Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft. With deliveries scheduled to commence in the first half of 2025, these aircraft are set to empower Air Astana to inaugurate direct flights to the U.S., bolstering connectivity and enhancing the nation's global reach.
