President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of the Republic of Uzbekistan welcomed delegations from the United States, led by Senator Steve Daines and Congressman Mike Rogers, during a meeting on March 27. The discussions centered on further enhancing the strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and the United States, as well as exploring avenues for expanding multilateral cooperation.
Advancing Bilateral Relations
Both parties acknowledged the significant progress achieved in bilateral cooperation in recent years, emphasizing the continuation of active dialogues and mutual visits. Notably, they highlighted the success of the inaugural summit of the leaders of Central Asian countries and the USA in the "C5+1" format held in September last year, alongside fruitful business meetings.
President Mirziyoyev expressed appreciation for the robust inter-parliamentary relations between Uzbekistan and the United States, particularly commending the efforts of the caucus on cooperation with Uzbekistan within the U.S. Congress.
Economic Collaboration and Trade Growth
The meeting also underscored the growing volume of mutual trade, which witnessed a notable increase of 30% by the end of 2023. The presence of U.S. companies in Uzbekistan's market is on the rise, exemplified by the significant investments made by companies such as "Air Products," with projects exceeding $10bn.
Particular attention was directed towards sustaining active practical cooperation with states such as Montana, Alabama, Washington, California, and Texas, represented by American legislators. Promising avenues for cooperation in education, agriculture, digital technologies, the mining industry, renewable energy, pharmaceuticals, and food supply chains were identified as areas ripe for further collaboration.
Future Initiatives and Engagement
To foster deeper ties, both parties agreed to facilitate business trips from various U.S. territories to Uzbekistan, aimed at nurturing stronger economic and cultural exchanges.
The meeting also touched upon current international and regional matters, including the situation in Afghanistan, reflecting the shared interest in addressing pressing global challenges and ensuring stability in the region.
