Uzbekistan’s tourism industry saw a sharp surge in the first 2M 2024, with the number of tourists reaching 974,200, marking an annual growth of 11.9%, as reported by the State Statistics Agency.
As of early March, the majority of tourists arrived from Tajikistan, with a total of 363,300 visitors. Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan followed closely, contributing 291,100 and 155,900 tourists, respectively.
On the other hand, the number of tourists from China, South Korea, and Belarus remained relatively low, with 5,500, 5,400, and 2,200 visitors respectively since the beginning of the year.
Uzbekistan aims to attract 10 mn tourists this year. As of October 2023, the country’s tourism industry had already attracted investments worth $1 bn.
Review of 2023
In 2023, Uzbekistan welcomed a total of 773,300 foreign visitors for leisure and recreation. The Russian Federation was the leading contributor, with 235,300 visitors. In December 2023, Uzbekistan became a more affordable destination for Russian tourists, with prices dropping by 3.4% compared to November of the same year. This price reduction may have played a role in making Uzbekistan a popular destination among Russian tourists.
Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan were also significant contributors to the tourist flow in 2023, with 63,400 and 43,800 visitors, respectively.
