In a move towards bolstering artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities in Kyrgyzstan, the Head of the Cabinet of Ministers, Akylbek Zhaparov, engaged in discussions with the management of OpenAI, a prominent developer company renowned for its advancements in AI technology, the Cabinet of Ministers reported.
The meeting between Zhaparov and OpenAI's Vice President, Arka Dhar, delved into the potential avenues for collaboration and the integration of AI technologies into various sectors of Kyrgyzstan's economy and governance.
Zhaparov underscored the government's staunch support for local startups involved in AI development. Highlighting the acquisition of a supercomputer last year aimed at training AI systems to recognize and further enhance the Kyrgyz language, Zhaparov articulated the significance of digitizing the language for its preservation and national sovereignty.
"As Prime Minister, I am concerned that the Kyrgyz language is not yet so widespread in the digital world," Zhaparov remarked. "For us, the preservation and development of the Kyrgyz language is a matter of national sovereignty."
Expressing readiness for extensive collaboration, Zhaparov extended an invitation for OpenAI to utilize Kyrgyzstan as a testing ground for innovative AI technologies, particularly in the ongoing digitalization efforts and public administration reforms.
"We are ready to act as a platform for testing and piloting your company’s innovative technologies," Zhaparov stated, emphasizing the government's proactive stance towards leveraging AI for governance and socio-economic advancement.
In response, Arka Dhar echoed enthusiasm for the prospect of collaboration, affirming OpenAI's commitment to fostering fruitful partnerships and facilitating the exchange of expertise in AI-driven projects.
"It is gratifying that the government of Kyrgyzstan is very interested in the development of projects using artificial intelligence," Dhar expressed. "Our team is ready for fruitful cooperation."
