In a gesture of goodwill and solidarity, Kazakhstan has extended a helping hand to Tajikistan by transferring 15,000 tons of mazut, a type of fuel oil, in a ceremony held in Dushanbe on March 12, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan reported.
The occasion witnessed the Ambassador of Kazakhstan, Valikhan Turekhanov, officially presenting a certificate for the substantial amount of mazut to Tajikistan's Deputy Director of the Agency for State Material Reserves, Sohibjon Ziyodullayev.
Mazut, characterized by its heavy and low-quality crude oil composition, serves as a vital fuel source, particularly in industrial and power generation sectors. While it boasts a higher sulfur content and lower energy yield compared to other fuel oils, mazut remains a cost-effective option for various applications.
In his address, Ambassador Turekhanov highlighted the decision to extend humanitarian assistance to Tajikistan, amounting to KZT 2.5bn ($5.65mn), in alignment with the directives of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of the Republic of Kazakhstan. This aid aims to bolster the stable operation of critical energy infrastructure within Tajikistan.
Facilitated by the Kazakhstan Agency for International Development, known as "KazAID," this humanitarian endeavor underscores the enduring bilateral relations between Kazakhstan and Tajikistan, rooted in centuries-old interaction. Beyond immediate assistance, it represents a strategic commitment to enhancing energy security within the region.
This latest contribution adds to the substantial support provided by Kazakhstan to Tajikistan over the years, with the cumulative value of humanitarian aid surpassing $50mn since 2006. Such consistent aid underscores Kazakhstan's unwavering commitment to fostering regional stability and prosperity.
