Uzbek Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation Kongratbay Sharipov has met with Turkmen Ambassador Shadurdy Meredov.
According to the Turkmen Foreign Ministry, the parties discussed expanding bilateral cooperation in education and scientific research, as well as strengthening ties between the two countries' higher education institutions.
"Plans to hold joint events this year to mark the 300th anniversary of the birth of the classical Turkmen poet Makhtumkuli Fraghi were discussed in detail."
According to the Uzbek Ministry of Education, the country's higher education institutions are training staff for Turkmen-language schools.
In addition, more than 160 ethnic Turkmens in Uzbekistan have the opportunity to study in their mother tongue at the Karakalpak State University and the Nukus State Pedagogical Institute.
The meeting also addressed the issue of increasing the number of Turkmen students in Uzbek universities.
