During the recent PDAC-2024 conference in Canada, the Minister of Industry and Construction of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kanat Sharlapaev, led a delegation from Kazakhstan, signing Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) in the realm of geology, the Ministry of Industry and Construction reported.
Among the key agreements were partnerships forged between the National Geological Survey of Kazakhstan (NGS) and Koan Analytics Inc., as well as between NGS and the Geological Survey of Finland (GTK). The signing ceremony, attended by high-ranking officials including Yerlan Galiyev, Chairman of the Board of NGS, Rob Wood representing Koan Analytics Inc., and Kimmo Tiilikainen, General Director of GTK, signals a landmark step towards integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into the field of geology.
The primary focus of these MoUs is to explore the potential establishment of a Center of Excellence in AI within the NGS framework. This initiative aims to enhance the precision and efficacy of mineral exploration processes through the utilization of advanced technologies. It involves the development of cutting-edge data transformation techniques, predictive models, algorithms, and data analysis tools, all geared toward identifying prospective mining targets.
Koan Analytics Inc., a Canadian firm renowned for its expertise in providing comprehensive solutions for industrial organizations, will play a pivotal role in this venture. With their proficiency in data transformation, machine learning model development, and algorithm creation, they are well-positioned to support the NGS in its endeavors to leverage AI in geology.
Additionally, the MoU signed with GTK, Finland's premier geological institution, underscores the global interest in Kazakhstan's geological resources. GTK's wealth of experience in geological research, resource assessment, and method development further enriches the collaborative efforts aimed at advancing the field of geology in Kazakhstan.
Yerlan Galiyev, Chairman of the Board of NGS, emphasized the significance of these agreements, highlighting their potential to strengthen international cooperation in the geology sector. He underscored the importance of such collaborations in enhancing investment opportunities and fostering economic ties between nations.
The PDAC Convention, where these agreements were inked, serves as a pivotal platform for the mining industry, attracting a diverse array of stakeholders from across the globe. With its congregation of geologists, investors, analysts, mining companies, and government officials, the event provides an ideal backdrop for forging strategic partnerships and driving innovation in the sector.
