On March 3, 74 Uzbek citizens who attempted to unlawfully cross the border into the United States via Mexico were deported back to Uzbekistan. One of the deportees shared his experience, stating that he lost his luggage and ticket during his journey, which included a stop in Madrid. He was part of a group of 400 Uzbek citizens who faced challenging circumstances for 14 days before being deported to Türkiye.
They later moved to Guatemala and made two unsuccessful attempts to enter the US. The individual spent two days in an immigration centre and walked for three days alongside Venezuelan nationals. He reported seeing deceased individuals during their journey. He spent $10,000 on the entire trip and returned home after being unable to find work.
In 2023, the Transactional Record Analysis Centre reported that 17,000 illegal immigrants from Uzbekistan entered the US. Furthermore, 40,000 natives of Central Asia, including 7,000 Kyrgyz citizens, 3,000 Tajik citizens, 2,700 Kazakh citizens, and 2,000 Turkmen citizens, are currently awaiting court decisions on their asylum applications.
Montana Senator Steve Daines stated that last year, 50,000 illegal immigrants from Central Asia crossed the US border. The US authorities have expressed concerns that these migrants could potentially be part of “sleeper cells of terrorist organisations”, posing a threat to national security.
