Rosatom Corporation, a leading player in the global nuclear energy sector, is currently engaged in discussions with several countries regarding the construction of small nuclear power plants. The potential partners include Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Myanmar, and various island states in East Asia, TASS reports.
Meeting the Growing Demand for Small Nuclear Power Plants
Rosatom's CEO, Alexey Likhachev, emphasized the increasing demand for small nuclear power plants worldwide. He projected that within the next 10 to 15 years, the global capacity of small nuclear power plants could reach between 30 to 40GW. This indicates a significant interest and potential for the expansion of small-scale nuclear energy solutions.
Collaborative Efforts with Russian Companies and International Partners
In addition to discussions with the aforementioned countries, Likhachev disclosed ongoing negotiations with prominent Russian companies such as Norilsk Nickel, Gazpromneft, and Lukoil regarding small nuclear power plant projects. These collaborations highlight the diverse partnerships involved in advancing nuclear energy infrastructure.
The discussions with Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Myanmar, and East Asian island states underscore Rosatom's strategic approach to international cooperation in the nuclear energy sector.
