German company Rhenus SE&Co. KG has unveiled plans to construct a multimodal transport and logistics center in the Andijan region of Uzbekistan, “Uztemiryulcontainer” reports.
Agreement Amid Diplomatic Endeavors
The initiative stems from an agreement reached during Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev's visit to Germany in September. Uzbekistan Railways and Rhenus forged a partnership aimed at the establishment of a multimodal logistics center, with the creation of a joint venture named UzContargo Andijan at its core.
An investment of €20mn is earmarked for the project, spanning until 2026. The envisaged logistics center is poised to possess the capacity to handle an annual cargo volume ranging from 250,000 to 300,000 tons in the foreseeable future.
Facilities and Capabilities
The proposed multimodal center is set to revolutionize transportation capabilities, facilitating seamless multimodal transportation. It will feature designated zones for container loading and unloading, as well as both open and closed customs warehouses. Furthermore, the center will be equipped to handle heavy cargo, catering to diverse logistical needs.
Commencement and Milestones
The official inauguration ceremony of the UzContargo Andijan joint venture is slated for the culmination of March 2024. However, the company has already been operating in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan for an unrevealed period of time, as well as in CA as a whole.
In September 2023 during the Central Asia Summit in Berlin, it was also agreed to establish a branch in Samarkand.
