Tajikistan and Qatar Relations
The diplomatic ties between the Republic of Tajikistan and the State of Qatar were officially established on December 13, 1994. Notably, in November 2012, the State of Qatar inaugurated its embassy in Dushanbe, followed by the opening of the Republic of Tajikistan's embassy in Doha in May 2013. In adherence to directives from the respective leaderships, mechanisms for political consultations were instituted between the foreign ministries, operating at ministerial, deputy ministerial, and departmental levels.
On June 8, 2023, the Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani embarked on a state visit to the Republic of Tajikistan. This visit resulted in the signing of 15 new agreements pertaining to cooperation across various sectors, including the economy, trade, food security, and agriculture.
Throughout the history of their relations, the Republic of Tajikistan and the State of Qatar have convened three political consultation meetings: on October 24, 2018, in Dushanbe, on January 26, 2020, in Doha, and on May 5, 2023, in Dushanbe, led by the First Deputy Foreign Ministers of both nations. The legal framework governing cooperation between the two countries encompasses over 30 intergovernmental and interagency agreements.
Trade and economic collaboration constitute integral aspects of the bilateral relationship. Notably, Qatar holds the distinction of being the first Arab nation to invest in Tajikistan. The Qatari firm "Dier" is actively involved in implementing the "Dieri Dushanbe" investment project within the Tajikistani capital. The initial phase of this project has been successfully completed, with plans underway for the subsequent phases in the coming years.
Moreover, a joint intergovernmental commission on trade, economic, technical, and scientific cooperation has been established, with meetings held in October 2012 in Dushanbe, January 30 to February 3 in Doha, August 30-31, 2018, in Dushanbe, and September 27-28, 2023, in Doha. These meetings serve as platforms for fostering deeper collaboration and exploring avenues for mutual benefit.
